HCM City greeted more than 1.2 million foreigners in five months

In May, the number of foreign tourists to Ho chi minh (HCM) City continued to rise to 195,000, an increase of 12 percent against the same period last year, said the HCM City Tourism Department.
The ten markets with largest number of foreign tourists are the US, Japan, Taipei (China), Australia, the Republic of Korea (RoK), China, France, Singapore, Canada and Malaysia. In the first five months of this year, the city greeted more than 1.2 million foreign tourists with an estimated turnover of 12,000 billion VND, 42 percent of the yearly target and a 17 percent increase year on year.

At present, the city tourism department is focusing on speeding up promotion and advertising activities, reprinting City Guide publications, maps and events timetablesin Korean, Russian, Chinese and French languages. Moreover, it is actively gearing up for the Southern Fruit Festival on June 1 and an international tourism festival on September 2008.

Among seven big festive programmes in Festival Hue 2008, three programmes will be broadcast live on VTV3, namely the opening and closing ceremonies and the Ao Dai fashion show.
