Vietnam’s Uoc mo cua Thuy (Thuy’s dream) was selected as one of 40 finalists for the first international documentary film festival on cancer which will be held in Switzerland next month.
The 22-minute documentary, Thuy’s dream, tells about HCM City’s Le Thanh Thuy who valiantly struggled to lead a normal life while coping with bone cancer.
Thuy, who was presented with the Hcm city Young Citizen Award by city authorities, died last year at the age of 19.
The Tuoi Tre (Youth) daily newspaper launched the project Thuy’s dream last year to give support to children suffering from bone cancer.
The activities of the young volunteers taking part in the project will also be featured in the documentary, which was made by the Tuoi Tre newspaper’s Television Department in co-operation with HCM City’s Tumour and Cancer Hospital.
The finalists in the Cancer Chronicles Film Festival were chosen from more than 250 entries from 40 countries.
The festival, organised by the International Union Against Caner (UICC), will take place in Geneva from August 20-28.
The UICC is one of the world’s leading international organisations dedicated exclusively to cancer control.
